An Important Message About School Closure

Dear Parents/Carers
The prime minister has announced that a second lockdown will start at midnight tonight.
Therefore, our plans to re-open to all pupils tomorrow must now be shelved. Instead we will be opening only to children of keyworkers and vulnerable pupils (those with an EHCP or social worker involvement). The school may also identify other vulnerable pupils and one of us will be in touch tomorrow to offer places to these pupils.
Nursery will be open to all children who usually attend as from tomorrow and every day.
All parents who wish to place children in school, as they are keyworkers with no provision to have children safely at home, can bring pupils into school as from tomorrow.
Children coming to school tomorrow must be brought in by a parent, entering the main gate only (by Carpe Diem mural) and we will confirm that a place is available on arrival. Please arrive between 08:30 and 08:50, keeping 2m+ apart and wearing masks (adults).
If you have any questions tonight, do email me.
It's going to be another very challenging time, but we'll work together like last time and get though the next 6 weeks as best as we can. Work will be set for pupils at home (laptops will be made available if needed) and our phone calling system will start up again.
Good luck everyone and be positive - we can make this work!
Kind regards
Alan Brannen (Headteacher)

Head's Welcome

In 2016, after thirteen wonderful years of headship at a primary school in Shrewsbury, I decided a change of scenery was needed and moved here to St. Lawrence’s, in the lovely town of Church Stretton surrounded by gorgeous hills. After four years of necessary changes and improvements, I am now delighted with how we are performing. This is a super school and nursery with so many strengths – the main one being the bubbly and confident children who are keen to learn and do their best. The governors, members of staff and parents work closely together to ensure that the pupils’ needs are met and that they enjoy school and achieve their potential. We have aspirations to become an outstanding school and I truly believe that this is achievable through high expectations and striving for excellence in all areas. Prospective parents are most welcome to visit the school for a tour and a chance to see us learning together and having fun!

Children's Welcome

Welcome to St Lawrence C of E Primary School in Church Stretton. We are a friendly school with many welcoming pupils and teachers, such as Mr Brannen who decided to create our St Lawrence Way. These are some phrases that are put together to make the word 'BEST' (Be responsible, Encourage others, Show respect and Try our best).

We have a range of pupils from 4 to 11 in ten different classes with 7 different year groups. Our classes are Fox, Owl, Hedgehog, Bat, Badger, Maple, Willow, Oak, Birch and Pine. We also have a nursery for 2 to 4 year olds.

Our school is spacious and has lots of educational facilities such as a library (we love reading), a large well-used playground and field and in the hall we have apparatus for PE and exercise. Other fascinating features of our school are:
PC Dave Junior; Larry the axolotl; our fabulous singing; our annual school performance and talent show and all our iPads and laptops.

As well as these fun things to do, we also have responsible school councillors (two from each class) that work together to work out what is right for the school and then help to make it happen. We work our hardest in school time, but after school, we also have clubs, such as drama, hockey, and archaeology. We also love sport and we are good at sports tournaments against other schools and lots of our pupils really enjoy PE and sports clubs.

We hope you decide to come and join us on our journey through primary school and enjoy learning and making new friends.
